We all know that loud pipes spare lives !
Before, I had a Yamaha SR 500, for those who do not know, this is also a single-cylinder machine,
and I had put on a wider exhaust pipe and made a muffler out of stainless steel. I said to myself, ah, this really is a bit loud, but I really liked the sound, so I did not care and very soon got used to it. Then one day my apprentice got a bike(Yamaha SR 250 also a thumper), and we went out together. On the way home I stopped and asked if she wanted to switch bikes, I'd liked to try hers and she hadn't tried mine. So - I was riding on her bike 25 meters behind her and OOOOH !! That bike was LOUD - I could not her the sound of the engine of the bike I was riding on !! So- that is obviously the best place to check the sound of your bike...riding behind it at a short distance.
No wonder my other mates did not like to ride with me...
Sold that bike shortly after (for other reasons) and now I'm waiting to get a Savage I have bought but not seen transported from Holland home to Finland. It has a slash-cut exhaust and sounds like tug-boat, my Dutch friend said... Nothing is like waiting for a THUMPER !
